TNT coach Chot Reyes was fined PHP50,000 by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) on Thursday for his post-game conduct after his team suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Magnolia in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The game was played on Thursday.

At the sound of the final buzzer, Chot Reyes wasted no time in rushing over to the referees’ table to confront them about the late foul that Calvin Oftana committed, which resulted in Paul Lee scoring the game-winning free throws.

One of the rules of the league was broken just by doing so; the regulation stipulates that “no member of any team may approach the commissioner’s row (now the technical group table) or speak to the supervisor of officials (unless otherwise asked) before, during, or after a game in full public view.”

In the event that the regulation is broken, the typical penalty is a fine of PHP20,000.

However, despite the fact that Chot Reyes had already been calmed down, he continued to throw some choice words at the authorities. This behavior, which the league defined as “continuously hurling invectives/profanities at game officials,” resulted in an extra punishment for Chot Reyes.

Chot Reyes stormed out of the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City while still seething at the decision to call a foul on Oftana.

Oftana did, in fact, foul Lee when he was going for the teardrop, and a video review that was displayed by the PBA on Thursday night also proved this fact and demonstrated that the refs made the correct decision.

After joining Chot Reyes in confronting the table officials, Tropang Giga team manager Jojo Lastimosa was also penalized with a fine of PHP20,000 for his participation in the incident.
